Rockwall Independent School District is one of the top school districts in the state, an asset that is not only great for families, but also for cultivating Rockwall’s future workforce.
Education in Rockwall Texas
As of 2019, there are over 16,535 students and 2,268 employees who make up 14 elementary schools, three middle schools, two high schools, the Burton College and Career Academy, and the Rockwall Quest Academy, an alternative education program. The Rockwall ISD contains all or parts of Rockwall, Heath, Fate, McLendon-Chisolm, Rowlett, Wylie and Royse City.
Dedicated teachers, parents and students have created a tradition of excellence that makes RISD one of the most recognized and top-performing school districts in the State of Texas. And their hard work is paying off: the RISD was Rated “A” by the Texas Accountability Rating System – a designation only the top 12% of schools in the state receive.
From Advanced Placement and International Baccalaureate programs to culinary, athletics, robotics, service initiatives, and a college and career academy, our educational resources provide a wealth of opportunities.
And with a 99% high school completion rate and SAT scores that are well above the state average, our students are seizing those opportunities – and coming out on top.
Once our students have graduated high school, there are plenty of nearby colleges and universities to attend, as well:
• Collin County Community Colleges
• Dallas County Community Colleges
• Texas Tech University (at the Gene Burton Academy)
• Eastfield College
• Texas A&M Commerce
• Dallas Baptist
• University of Texas Dallas
• University of North Texas
• Southern Methodist University
• University of Dallas
• UT Southwestern Medical Center
That commitment to education can been seen when looking at Rockwall’s demographics. At least 43.4% of our residents have at least a bachelor’s degree, which is significantly more than the State (29.5%) and National (32.3%) averages.

“Doing business in Rockwall and North Central Texas is great for several reasons. First and foremost is the talent pool in which we get to draw. Secondly, the community, schools, and businesses work closely together for the benefit of each other and finally, the quality of life for all of us that work at SPM. Rockwall is an excellent location because of Interstate 30 providing regional access and close proximity to our suppliers and customers.”
“When I came to Texas, I felt this Texas pride. People here, they want to support domestic and local manufacturing and the local manufacturers want to support the local community… In California, it took us five years to build what we have right now. But in Texas, it will only take 12 months to surpass what we’re currently doing in California. I foresee our manufacturing capability will be three times what we’re currently doing in California.”
“The EDC (in Rockwall) has really gone a lot further than what any other EDC would have done. They’ve really made a commitment to help us grow and made a commitment to be there for us… I really believe that it was the perfect decision, coming here to Rockwall. It was a lot better than what we ever thought it would be.”
“The hidden benefit we didn’t recognize initially when we scouted out the territory was really how great the skilled, hourly workforce was going to be. We didn’t realize how good it would be… I’ve worked in twelve manufacturing facilities in corrugated and this is by far the best group I’ve ever had.”
